For a serene escape after a long journey to Lilongwe, visit Ntchisi Forest to break up your journey. The mountain is known for its peaceful hikes, stunning sunsets, and being home to one of Malawi’s last indigenous evergreen rainforests, while producing some of the best coffee in Malawi.
When you pass through Mzuzu, be sure to visit Macondo’s community shop, and take a chocolate tasting tour with Kwanza Chocolate.
Continue further north to Livingstonia to visit the stunning waterfalls and dramatic scenery on the way. Perched high on the cliffs, overlooking Lake Malawi, experienced local guides can offer multiday tours to Nyika Plateau, or hikes down to the lake for breathtaking views, and a glimpse into the region’s history. Visit the idyllic lakeside villages of Molowe, and boat hop to Ruarwe and Usisya to see some of the country’s most pristine parts of the lake.
Then, for some excitement and variety, Nkhata Bay is an adventure hub with many community tours and activities on offer, from boat trips, motorbike tours, and visits to tea & macadamia plantations.
